feeble little addict
by D.A. GrimAnalog Cabin
The surreal experience known as feeble little horse may
have already caught your attention—with the effortlessly
hooky lead vocals of their bassist, Lydia Slocum. It could
have been the dynamic textures of guitarist’s Sebastian
Kinsler and Ryan Walchonski—layered tastefully into
clever riffs that I could only attempt to put into words. Or
the adaptable drum stylings of Jake Kelley that drive the
band’s sonic pilgrimage.
Unfortunately Ryan [founder of Aunt Katrina] has left
feeble, though we should trust that they’ve been left in
good hands with those of, Rob Potesta, guitarist and
newest addition to the band. (edit: I’ve seen Rob with
them [not in person yet] and he rips, so glad. I caught a
YT vid… Can’t wait for them to come pop up in D.C and
play their new banger, about “shopping.”)
I saw a video of them playing a set in a hot and sweaty
basement; apparently it was a secret show: @oliverv4828
informed the comment section, “Band members posted on
their insta a secret basement show was happening and that
you'd have to show up at a location and follow the trail of
clues to get to the house.” I never thought I would want to
live in Pittsburgh… but that makes me wish I grew up
there.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of the
Pittsburgh based band is originality. When I first
discovered them a couple years ago I quickly became
captivated by their raw approach and bizarre-casual
aesthetic, meanwhile the music was sinking into regions
of my brain that I had never even thought to use. I read a
comment somewhere that said something like, “feeble
little horse scratches a musical itch that I didn’t even know
I had.” And I felt that…
The band has its own—is its own subculture. Their live
show seemed to have the most absurdly chill vibes of any
I’d seen:
Catchy vocals felted in fuzzy guitars, otherworldly
combinations of riffs and tones and drums, and Seb
casually asking the crowd (of maybe 100 people, at a mid-
day matinee the day before easter—true story) about
Trader Joe’s and their sandwiches. (The whole room
bonded over the outrageous price of a sandwich from a
grocery store. Seb’s cool asf.)
The DIY, house-show vibes of feeble little horse go
hand in hand with the unrelenting creative force that lives
within the project. I’m always eager to see what they’ll
come up with next (and from what I’ve heard recently,
they’ll soon be adding more earworms to their addictive
discography.
*Also, worth mentioning in Three Novelettes, I
described the voice of one of the characters as “a feeble
little horse in a warm blanket” as a placeholder, and it
stuck. So, yeah, s/o , again. Okay, that’s all… Bye.*
